Maintenance… Whether you love it or hate it, you have to do it.

Change your oil, check your fluids, check your brakes, check your tire pressure and tread… If you are like me, these are all things you have heard from either your Dad, a friend, or a mechanic (I am lucky enough to have a brother that happens to be a mechanic J).

When it has to do with maintenance, your OnBase system is a lot like a car. You have to maintain it. Now, all of the car maintenance jargon may not directly translate to your OnBase system but I will do my best.

Car OnBase
Preventative (fluid levels, tires, brakes, etc.) Check your verification reports
Oil Change Clear out document maintenance, document locks
Replace Brakes Restart all services/application pools
Replace Tires Upgrade to Current Version
Replace Filters Database Backups
30K, 60K, 90K, 120K, etc. Maintenance Create a document retention plan
Car Insurance Disaster Recovery

If you take care of your car it will run forever, and the same goes with your OnBase system.

Whether you are handy or not, talking about your car or OnBase, you are probably saying to yourself, “I don’t have the time/knowledge to do these type of things.” That’s completely understandable and there are a ton of resources available to you.

Return To Sender…

Tis’ the season for Christmas cards! We take family photos, pick out a festive layout, print them out and prep for mailing. Seems pretty painless, right? Think again. Are You Asking For A Faster Horse?

We all know the adage…you don’t know what you don’t know. Time and time again while working in the world of enterprise information software I see this first hand. PAIN…a sign that change is near.

What is pain? Pain is physical suffering or discomfort caused by illness or injury. Pain motivates you to withdraw from damaging situations, to protect your body and to avoid similar experiences in the future. How many times do we have pain but ignore it? I know I have. I was running a 5K and BAM about half way through I […]

Reduce, Reuse, Refactor

Code simplicity and forethought for reuse. It requires more effort up front, but boy does it ever pay off in the long run! It’s the easiest way to simplify and maintain solutions and along with clever refactoring, is the easiest way to understand the code and make changes or add additional functionality in the future. I’ve been a personal witness […]

The Kama Sutra, Target Corporation and your OnBase System

Have you shopped at a Target store during the last holiday season? Have you called or e-mailed your Valentine  lately? Have you seen a doctor during this especially nasty flu season?
